Adding XY data to ArcGIS

This tutorial covers adding XY data to ArcGIS, so that you can view and work with the data in ArcGIS. By XY data I mean point data such as foliation that has a spatial (XY) component associated with it.

The Department of Geology (University of Otago) koordinates site is set up to allow users to download/view data with a spatial component.

The main dataset of interest is the “theses metadata polygons” which shows the mapped areas for theses (PhD, MSc) and dissertations and metadata such as: author, project, title, advisers, keywords.

Other data includes research output such as: Alpine Fault traces, cataclasite zones, a 3D model of the Waitangi-taona and Whataroa rivers.

Illustration/Graphics resources incl. USGS patterns pack

I’ve just put a new section on this website with Illustration/Graphics resources. In this section is a page with a USGS AI pack instructions and a download link. The pack contains patterns for geological mapping such as schist, limestone and other things. The instructions make it really easy to use.

I will be adding a USGS Inkscape pack soon with instructions. I will also be adding more Illustration/Graphics resources as time permits.
