Visits
Kieran DeMonte recently returned from five weeks working with Prof Garry Hanan’s group at the Université de Montréal, Canada, carrying out a series of homogenous hydrogen and CO2 reduction photocatalysis studies, as part of a multi-year MBIE catalyst seed grant that will end mid-2023. Kieran learnt and developed valuable homogeneous photocatalysis skills under the expert guidance of the Hanan group (thanks particularly to Dr Folaranmi Akogun and Olivier Schott), and collected data on a family of our complexes. We are grateful to them for hosting this research visit and our continuing collaboration!
Sally and Prof Nicola Gaston (both representing the MacDiarmid Institute) went on a DAAD funded tour of German Clusters of Excellence by NZ scientists and policy makers, in January (2020) and were presented with a crystal of silicon by Prof Torsten Boeck during their tour of the Leibniz Institute for Crystal Research (Berlin). She also caught up with Dr Paul Jerabek (Helmholtz Centre for Materials and Coastal Research), whilst visiting Hamburg.

Sally catching up with Professors Thorsten Glaser (left; University of Bielefeld) and Karsten Meyer (right; University of Erlangen-Nurnberg) during the ISNSC conference in Dresden (9-12 July 2018) – way back in 1996 we worked alongside one another for 6 months in the MPI for Stahlenchemie (now MPI for Chemical Energy Conversion), Mulheim an der Ruhr.
