- 1st NZ Green Hydrogen Symposium (incl. German-NZ & OFF2), an in person conference at Otago University, 1-3 February 2023 (NZ organising committee: Brooker, Garden, Marshall, Peer, Haas; German co-organiser Jerabek). Delegates interested in any and aspects of green hydrogen are most welcome. Invited international speakers (accepted) to date include: Dr Paul Jerabek (co-leader of German-NZ Green H2 Alliance, Institute for Hydrogen Technology, Helmholtz Zentrum Hereon, near Hamburg), Prof Smaranda Marinescu (Chemistry Professor, University of Southern California, LA), Prof Rodrigo Palma (Director Energy Center, University of Chile), Prof Pierluigi Mancarella (Chair Power Systems, University of Melbourne). - First 3 German-NZ Green H2 research grants awarded (Minister Verrall press release 16 August 2022) including one, hosted at Otago University but with an NZ wide team plus our partners at Helmholtz Zentrum Hereon, on “Safe, low cost, hydrogen storage materials from NZ resources” (HZH press release 4 August 2022; Otago Uni press release 17 Aug 2022; ODT 17 Aug 2022; EnergyCentral 17 Aug 2022); and two based at Canterbury University (Canterbury Uni press release 17 August 2022), investigating ways of producing low-cost green hydrogen (led by Prof Aaron Marshall), and the creation of a New Zealand-German platform for green hydrogen integration (led by Drs Jannik Haas and Rebecca Peer).
