One way to think about what “Open” means is to think about what it does NOT mean. Here are four images that I captured while walking around the campus yesterday.

Nice analogous images Mark. Interesting that your walk around the campus did not seem to conjure up images of openness. They must be out there though…
I’m sure they are. I can imagine there are many open windows and doors around. Unfortunately, they don’t suit the wide format (maybe selective cropping or a horizontal collage?). Apparently, marketing research suggests that it is better to show behavior you want people to emulate, not images of what you DON’T want them to do. The hunt continues!
Right, so rather than saying ‘don’t come in here’ they should suggest ‘why not take a pleasant stroll in the opposite direction’?
My favourite ‘NOT open’ ever was a second hand shop in Edinburgh (well junk shop really) which had a huge sign which read NO BROWSING!
Wonderful! I hope they have bodyguards flanking the entrance, and an effective surveillance system.
