CEFGroup Director Invited to Speak at RBNZ Media Conference


The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) released the Climate Changed 2021 & Beyond report this morning, outlining its actions to mitigate and manage the significant financial risks associated with climate change. CEFGroup Director, Associate Professor Ivan Diaz-Rainey, was invited to give a presentation about why central banks should be taking action around the risks of climate change, as well as the topic of climate finance in general.

Caroline Lambert CEFGroup Sustainable Investment Visit


Caroline Lambert visited the Climate and Energy Finance Group (CEFGroup) this Thursday. She delivered a EU Green Deal talk (jointly hosted by He Kaupapa Hononga – Otago’s Climate Change Research Network and CEFGroup), and a Sustainable Finance and Taxonomies guest lecture for Sebastian‘s FINC399 class.

Caroline is Head of Trade for the Delegation of the European Union to Aotearoa/New Zealand and leads climate, energy and other “Green Deal” aspects of diplomacy. Caroline has over 20 years’ experience in European policy design in the European Commission and has worked in a variety of roles in energy, transport, climate, environment, budgetary and financial affairs.

CEFGroup Director Comments on NZ Carbon Price


New Zealand carbon price more than doubled within a year, from below $30 per tonne of emission to a skyrocketing $65. CEFGroup Director, Associate Professor Ivan Diaz-Rainey was quoted in a Stuff article, where he expressed his concern for potential speculation in the carbon market, and the urge for a high enough carbon price to drive decisive climate action. CEFGroup Director Joins Climate Policy Editorial Board


CEFGroup Director, Associate Professor Ivan Diaz-Rainey, has been appointed to the Editorial Board of Climate Policy – an international journal publishing high quality research into climate-change policy, including adaptation, negotiations and impact.

Recently, Ivan has been working with the team on a special issue on Green Finance in Asia. He has been invited to contribute to the enhancement of the number and quality of submissions in the fields of Climate Finance, drawing upon his research activities in this field.


CEFGroup PhD Paper Accepted for Presentation at the IFABS 2021 Oxford Conference


CEFgroup PhD Iftekhar Ahmed‘s paper has been accepted for presentation at the IFABS 2021 Oxford Conference being hosted at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

The paper entitled Expand or Avoid: Microfinance Credit Risk and Climate Vulnerability (with Associate Professor Ivan Diaz-Rainey, Associate Professor Helen Roberts and Dr Dung Nguyen) has been considered for the Federal Reserve Board Special Session on Credit Risk. CALL FOR PAPERS: 2nd CEFGroup Climate Finance Symposium


The Climate and Energy Finance Group (CEFGroup) welcomes submissions of papers for its second academic climate finance symposium. We welcome papers in all areas of climate finance, sustainable finance, energy finance, carbon finance, and ESG investing/reporting etc.

We intend to divide the symposium into two broad tracks. Day one will have a focus on climate finance and related innovative methodologies (GIS modelling, simulation, stress testing, machine learning etc.) and policy implications. Day two will focus more on conventional empirical and theoretical papers in sustainable finance.
