New Zealand Hydrogen Symposia (NZHS-x)
This research focussed symposium series is supported by the New Zealand Hydrogen Council and complements their industry focussed H2 2 ZERO Summit series. Both the Summits and the Symposia are being held on a recurring basis.
Interest in the production, storage, use and integration of hydrogen has grown rapidly in recent years, and with it, attention from researchers, iwi, industry and governments. The NZHS-x series is a multidisciplinary meeting to discuss the latest research in the many aspects of hydrogen and will bring together local and international speakers and delegates from iwi, universities, government research agencies, policy and industrial partners.
The inaugural New Zealand Hydrogen Symposium (NZHS-1) was hosted and held at the University of Otago in Ōtepoti Dunedin, Aotearoa New Zealand, 1–3 February 2023. You can read more about it on the NZHS-1 page and on the conference website. We celebrated the gifting of the He Honoka Hauwai / German New Zealand Green Hydrogen name, logo and phrase to us by our partners Ngāi Tahu at NZHS-1.
The second symposium, NZHS-2, was hosted by GNS Science and held at Te Papa in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand, 31 January – 2 February 2024. You can read more about NZHS-2 on the website.
The third symposium, NZHS-3, was hosted by the Sustainable Energy Research Group (SERG), University of Canterbury and held at Ti Kouka at the University of Canterbury in Ōtautahi Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand, 3-5 February 2025. You can see more details on the website.
The fourth symposium, NZHS-4, was co-chaired by Associate Professor Jonathan Kitchen (Auckland University of Technology) and Professor Peng Cao (University of Auckland) and was held in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, 2-4 February 2026. The NZHS4 website with more information is here.
The fifth symposium, NZHS-5, will be hosted by the University of Otago in Ōtepoti Dunedin, Aotearoa New Zealand, 1 – 3 February 2027. The MacDiarmid Institute’s 12th International Conference on Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology (AMN12) will be held the following week in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, 8 – 12 February 2027, so this is a great opportunity to combine a trip to Aotearoa New Zealand and attend two fantastic conferences. Further information will be available here in due course.
