Quantitative Genetics Symposium

A Quantitative Genetics Symposium hosted by the Virtual Institute of Statistical Genetics Hub was held to coincide with a visit of keynote speaker by Professor Bruce Weir from the University of Washington and included sessions on human genetics, primary industries, conservation & population genetics.

An Audience with…ECR Women

Our ‘An Audience With…’ series is aimed at our postgraduate students (but early career researchers are also welcome to attend) and will provide the opportunity for discussion with experts in their field. This event featured a panel of three Early Career Women, Dr Catherine Collins, Dr Eddy Dowle and Tanis Godwin.

Postgraduate Retreat

The Genetics Otago biennial Postgraduate Retreat was held in 2021. This event was open to all postgraduate students who are using genetics in their research and was broken into three sessions – Science Communication, Professional Development and Problem Solving.

Ira Rangahau Symposium and Workshops

This event was planned following the initiative of Phil Wilcox (Ngāti Rakaipaaka, Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Kahungnu ki te Wairoa) (Department of Maths and Statistics), who organised the inaugural Ira Rangahau in 2018. Ira Rangahau brings together Māori kaipūtaio (scientists) from around the motu to present their genetics-related research ranging from the primary sector, to health, to whakapapa and te taiao (the environment).

Oxford Nanopore Hub Project Clinic

Thirty-minute ‘one-on-one’ discussion sessions with experts from Oxford Nanopore Technologies to provide advice on experimental design, sample number, replicates, controls, bioinformatics or statistics.

Oxford Nanopore Hub Festival Workshop

Events showcasing Oxford Nanopore Technology and the Otago Genomics Facility GridION facility: a full day bioinformatics workshop, hands-on chip loading activities, sequencing project design clinics and an introductory seminar to Nanopore, Otago resources and new developments presented by experts from Oxford Nanopore Technologies.
