Welcome to STRAND2 Project
Financial Stability and Improved Policies through Spatio-temporal Hybrid Climate Stress Tests
Welcome to the official research website for our STRAND project, hosted at the University of Otago and supported by a Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) Smart Ideas Project (2025-2027) research funding ($1,000,000), in New Zealand. This initiative represents a critical leap forward in how we quantify and manage climate risks in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Traditional climate stress testing often operates in silos: Either focusing on hyper-local physical damage (bottom-up) or broad economic indicators (top-down). Our research idea is to bridge this gap through hybridization. By integrating these two perspectives, we are expanding the range of influences considered in real-estate and financial system stability.
This project is a direct evolution of our foundational work under the Marsden Fund STRAND 1 Project (2021–2024), moving from understanding fundamental risks to building the integrated models required for systemic resilience.
