Research Staff Awards 2025

The 274th Scientific Meeting of OMSRS, the 2025 Research Staff Meeting, was held on 11th at the Colquhoun Lecture Theatre. Five early career researchers had their abstracts accepted by the Editorial Panel, and the the overall standard of presentation on the night was extremely high. The presenters were:

Dr Brendon Roxburgy, School of Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Sciences

Dr Jithendra Ratnayake, Department of Oral Science

Dr Melanie Miller, Department of Paediatrics and Child Health

Dr Sankalita Ray Das, Department of Biochemistry

The judges for the meeting were Prof Rajesh Katere (Department of Physiology), Dr Jerin Mathews (Department of Anatomy) and Dr Kunyu Li (Department of Pathology). The event was generously sponsored by the School of Biomedical Sciences.

The winner was Dr Sankalita Ray Das from the Department of Biochemistry. (Abstract: S Ray Das, R Sullivan, M Ruegg, J Horsfield et al. Recurrent de novo variants in the splicing factor CRNKL1 cause severe neurodevelopmental disorder). Sankalita received $500 in prize money.

The runner-up was Dr Brendon Roxburgh from the School of Physical Education, Sport and Exercise Sciences. (Abstract: BH Roxburgh, HA Campbell, HD Cotter, MJA Williams, KN Thomas. Hot water immersion, and immersion per se, reduces 24 h blood pressure in people with hypertension). Brendon received $250 in prize money.
