Congrats to Sam McCullough and Peter Remoto
Congrats to Sam and Peter who recently published Sam’s honours project on analysis of water in collaboration with the DCC. The paper, published in the Journal of Water Process Engineering 77 (2025) 108474 was entitled “Characterization of New Zealand drinking water source variation over time and between sources using fluorescence spectroscopy” used excitation emission maps (so-called excitation-emission matrix (EEM) fluorescence spectroscopy) and multivariate analysis to understand contributions from algae and cyanobacteria in the water samples during March to June (New Zealand autumn). This powerful new exploratory tool may be used to characterize components within source water which serve as indicators for water quality and support long-term environmental management. The work was done in collaboration with Dr Jonathan Barnsley (an Alumni of the KCG group) at 3WATERS PLANT OPERATIONS at Dunedin City Council.
