The School of Biomedical Sciences undertakes a broad range of world-class research, from agriculture to medicine. Our School is made up of leading-edge researchers working on a huge variety of topics from cancer, human and animal health, immunology, virology, and neuroendocrinology, through to plant biotechnology. We provide high-quality teaching and an innovative research environment for over 2,500 University of Otago students!

The School of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) has built an international reputation as a centre for award-winning research. Our Academic staff receive significant amounts of funding through successful grant applications, and students are involved in these research projects. The School also prides itself on providing a world-class teaching environment, giving students both theoretical and practical skills to succeed in their chosen field. With a substantial number of international students and staff, BMS is truly part of a global international research and teaching community.
