If you wish to join audio via the telephone, follow the instructions further down, otherwise simply select Join Audio by Computer <em>(TIP: by ticking the &#8220;Automatically join audio by computer&#8230;&#8221; option box first, will mean you won&#8217;t get prompted again in the future)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Join-Audio-by-Computer.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-452\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Join-Audio-by-Computer-300x167.png\" alt=\"Join Audio by Computer\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Join-Audio-by-Computer-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Join-Audio-by-Computer-500x279.png 500w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Join-Audio-by-Computer.png 518w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"join-audio-by-phone\"><strong><u>Join via Telephone<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you are unable to join\u00a0from Zoom on a computer or mobile device, then you can join on the telephone instead.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to attend a Zoom meeting via telephone within NZ please call the NZ number (check this link for up to date numbers: <a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/zoomconference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/zoom.us\/zoomconference<\/a>). Then enter the Meeting ID and PIN (if required) when prompted.<\/p>\n<p><em>Please note calls will be charged at standard national rates.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are also many &#8220;local&#8221; dial-in numbers from many international locations. You can find more details on these <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/ways-to-join-or-host-a-meeting\/phone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"join-pc-with-audio-by-phone\"><strong><u>Join via Computer &amp; Audio via Telephone<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It is possible to use a combination of computer for video and phone for audio.<\/p>\n<p>If you use this option, then join the meeting using your computer first, and then select the <strong>Join By Phone<\/strong>\u00a0tab\u00a0when the audio pop-up window appears (see example below). This will display the NZ dial in number for you (or you can change it to display one of the many other countries which have a \u201clocal\u201d dial in number by clicking on the flag icon), as well as the Meeting ID to enter and your Participant ID.<\/p>\n<p>Dial in as noted above, however after entering the Meeting ID, you will be prompted to enter your Participant ID. Simply enter this number followed by # and your video and audio will then be synchronised.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Join-Audio-by-Telephone.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-453\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Join-Audio-by-Telephone-300x151.png\" alt=\"Join Audio by Telephone\" width=\"300\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Join-Audio-by-Telephone-300x151.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Join-Audio-by-Telephone-500x252.png 500w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Join-Audio-by-Telephone.png 529w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"hand-raise\"><strong><u>Raising Your Hand<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As the non-speaker if you wish to ask a question or make a point during a meeting it is good protocol to use the \u2018Raise Hand\u2019 facility.<\/p>\n<p>If the tool bar is not showing at the bottom of the Zoom window, place your cursor over the Zoom window so it appears and select the \u2018Participants\u2019 icon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Participants-Icon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1164\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2020\/09\/Zoom_Participants_5.2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"74\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A window listing the other participants will appear. At the bottom of this list, there is a \u2018Raise Hand\u2019 icon, click the icon to make it known to the Host that you would like to raise your hand.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1165\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2020\/09\/Raise_Hand_1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"116\" height=\"75\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While your hand is raised, the icon should have an outline as below.\u00a0If you wish to lower your hand, simply click the \u2018Raise Hand\u2019 icon again.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1163\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2020\/09\/Raised_Hand_3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"123\" height=\"83\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When your hand is raised, this will be reflected in the list of participants as below.<strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1166\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2020\/09\/Raise_Hand_2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"567\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2020\/09\/Raise_Hand_2.png 567w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2020\/09\/Raise_Hand_2-500x103.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 567px) 100vw, 567px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>About hand-raises for hosts:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a host of a Zoom meeting, you can manually lower a participants hand yourself by going to the main participants list as above. There will be an icon next to the participant&#8217;s name indicating that their hand is currently raised. In order to &#8220;lower&#8221; their hand, you can simply mouse over their name and then click &#8220;Lower Hand&#8221;. This is demonstrated below:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1167\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2020\/09\/Raise_Hand_4-Host.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"572\" height=\"52\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2020\/09\/Raise_Hand_4-Host.png 572w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2020\/09\/Raise_Hand_4-Host-500x45.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 572px) 100vw, 572px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"chat\"><strong><u>Using Chat<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You can use the \u2018Chat\u2019 facility to send text chat to all participants or privately to specific participants.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the \u2018Chat\u2019 icon in the tool bar, again hover your mouse over the Zoom window if you can\u2019t see the tool bar.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Chat-Icon.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-455\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2016\/04\/Chat-Icon.png\" alt=\"Chat Icon\" width=\"47\" height=\"50\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A chat window will then open. Select \u2018Everyone\u2019 or the name of the person you wish to send a chat message to.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1203\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/zoom\/files\/2020\/09\/chat_5.2-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"163\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"audio-only\"><strong><u>Audio only<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It is possible that during the conference participants will be ask to turn off their cameras and move to audio only, particularly if there are problems with the available bandwidth.<\/p>\n<p>To do this simply click on the camera icon at the bottom of the Zoom window.
