{"id":536,"date":"2026-05-12T17:02:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T05:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/visualstudies\/?p=536"},"modified":"2026-05-12T17:13:55","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T05:13:55","slug":"__trashed-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/visualstudies\/__trashed-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Ng\u0101 Manu Huna &#8211; kiwi call broadcast."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ng\u0101 Manu Huna: Live Broadcasts of Kiwi Calls<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ng\u0101 Manu Huna: Live Broadcasts of Kiwi Calls<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This May and June, audiences around the world are invited to enter the nocturnal world of Aotearoa New Zealand\u2019s kiwi.&nbsp;<em>Ng\u0101 Manu Huna<\/em>&nbsp;is a live, two-night broadcast transmitting the calls of North Island Brown Kiwi from a remote valley in Te P\u0113whairangi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project brings together environmental sound, the maramataka (M\u0101ori lunar calendar), conservation science, and contemporary art, offering a rare real-time encounter with one of the world\u2019s most distinctive and widely recognised endangered birds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Ng\u0101 Manu Huna<\/em>&nbsp;broadcasts take place in the first two hours of darkness of autumn\u2019s new moons and align with Te Papa Atawhai | Department of Conservation\u2019s annual kiwi call monitoring period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first 2026 livestream will take place on&nbsp;<strong>17 May, 6:00\u20138:00pm NZST (UTC+12)<\/strong>, weather dependent.
