{"id":511,"date":"2026-01-12T15:17:25","date_gmt":"2026-01-12T02:17:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/visualstudies\/?p=511"},"modified":"2026-01-12T15:17:26","modified_gmt":"2026-01-12T02:17:26","slug":"call-for-papers-in-visual-studies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/visualstudies\/call-for-papers-in-visual-studies\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Papers in Visual Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2026 Research Network Seminars Series <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Deadline: February 13, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The convenors of the Visual Studies Network invite expressions of interest from its members, with a particular (but not exclusive) emphasis on the study of visual disciplines, for our 2026 series of&nbsp;seminars.&nbsp;Preference will be given to those who regularly attend the seminar, which has been running in its current form since 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you may already know, the seminar series is conceived as a collegial space for sharing research&nbsp;<strong>in progress&nbsp;<\/strong>rather than finished or fully polished papers. Contributions may take the form of exploratory arguments, methodological reflections, archival or visual material under analysis, or chapters\/articles in progress. It is best if the presentations focus on not-yet published material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We particularly welcome contributions that engage with, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Art history and visual culture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Photography and film<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exhibition histories and curatorial practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visual archives and material culture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Theoretical and methodological approaches to the visual<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ethos of the seminar series<\/strong><br>The seminars aim to foster a supportive, experimental, and interdisciplinary environment. Participants can test ideas and receive thoughtful, constructive feedback. We encourage open discussion across disciplinary boundaries and career stages. Each presentation may vary in length, from roughly 30 minutes to a maximum of 1 hour, excluding discussion.
