{"id":1065,"date":"2016-10-27T01:32:10","date_gmt":"2016-10-27T01:32:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/thehockenblog\/?p=1065"},"modified":"2016-10-27T01:32:10","modified_gmt":"2016-10-27T01:32:10","slug":"happy-world-audiovisual-heritage-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/thehockenblog\/happy-world-audiovisual-heritage-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Happy World Audiovisual Heritage Day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Post by Amanda Mills, Liaison Librarian &#8211; Audio Visual and Music<\/p>\n<p>This annual day (October 27<sup>th<\/sup>) is run by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unesco.org\/new\/en\/communication-and-information\/access-to-knowledge\/archives\/world-day-for-audiovisual-heritage\/\">UNESCO<\/a> to celebrate audiovisual heritage, and to raise awareness that this vulnerable material is in danger of being lost through neglect, decay, destruction, and lack of resourcing. World Audiovisual Heritage Day has a different theme every year, and 2016\u2019s theme is \u2018It\u2019s your story \u2013 don\u2019t lose it.\u2019 This theme presents opportunities to showcase cultural material in the audiovisual collections, and we\u2019ve found a couple of fascinating pieces to share with you.<\/p>\n<p>The first recording is from a disc called \u2018Social Credit in 3 minutes\u2019 (spoken word by A.E. Willyams) and is a promotional 78rpm recording for the Social Credit Party, recorded in the 1950s (side B is the \u2018Social Credit March\u2019). Hocken Sound Recordings: Rec-M 1104<\/p>\n<p>The second recording is a 1958 45rpm disc \u2018: A Maori love story\u2019, told by Kenneth Melvin, on the Reed Records label.
