The scholarship, funded under the Marsden Research Project, \u201cA New Politics of Peace? Investigations in Contemporary Pacifism and Non-violence\u201d, provides a NZD$25,000 annual stipend and covers tuition fees for a period of three years. The successful applicant will be based within the National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (NCPACS), University of Otago, New Zealand, and supervised by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.otago.ac.nz\/ncpacs\/staff\/otago029983.html\" target=\"_blank\">Professor Richard Jackson<\/a> (NCPACS), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.otago.ac.nz\/theology\/staff\/otago013660.html\" target=\"_blank\">Professor Murray Rae<\/a> (Theology) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.otago.ac.nz\/historyarthistory\/staff\/otago036860.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dr Michael Stevens<\/a> (History).<\/p>\n<p>Research Proposals which explore the following topics are particularly welcome:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The influence of Christianity in the emergence of M\u0101ori nonviolent resistance traditions;<\/li>\n<li>The subjugation of M\u0101ori peace traditions by settler society in nineteenth-century New Zealand;<\/li>\n<li>The instances and causes of M\u0101ori groups avoiding conflict during the New Zealand Wars;<\/li>\n<li>M\u0101ori resistance to conscription during World War One.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are interested, contact <a href=\"http:\/\/www.otago.ac.nz\/ncpacs\/staff\/otago029983.html\" target=\"_blank\">Professor Richard Jackson<\/a>\u00a0of NCPACS for details. \u00a0Application deadline: Friday 3 July, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PhD Scholarship on Peace Traditions in Aotearoa\/New Zealand Applications are now being sought for a one-off 3-year PhD scholarship to investigate Indigenous peace traditions in early New Zealand.
