{"id":323,"date":"2015-05-13T11:37:44","date_gmt":"2015-05-12T23:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/?p=323"},"modified":"2015-05-13T11:37:44","modified_gmt":"2015-05-12T23:37:44","slug":"attitudes-of-nz-youth-to-maori-language-revitalization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/attitudes-of-nz-youth-to-maori-language-revitalization\/","title":{"rendered":"Attitudes of NZ youth to M\u0101ori-language revitalization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What do young people think about the future of te reo M\u0101ori?<\/p>\n<p>Nathan Albury is undertaking research on &#8220;folk linguistics&#8221;, that is, what do ordinary people think about language use. \u00a0Nathan was formerly here at Te Tumu, but is now close to completing his PhD at the University of Oslo on folk linguistics relating to the revitalization of te reo M\u0101ori in New Zealand, and the Saami language in Norway. \u00a0Te Tumu&#8217;s Dr Lyn Carter remains as one of his supervisors.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan has recently written a\u00a0short pamphlet with some of his findings relating to te reo M\u0101ori. \u00a0He has circulated it to government departments and political parties. \u00a0In particular he has had a good response from Education Minister Hon.
