{"id":1240,"date":"2021-08-14T09:32:24","date_gmt":"2021-08-13T21:32:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/?p=1240"},"modified":"2021-08-14T11:39:19","modified_gmt":"2021-08-13T23:39:19","slug":"dr-kalavite-features-on-two-international-panels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/dr-kalavite-features-on-two-international-panels\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr Kalavite features on two international panels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/files\/2021\/08\/telesia.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1241\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/files\/2021\/08\/telesia-247x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/files\/2021\/08\/telesia-247x300.png 247w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/files\/2021\/08\/telesia.png 293w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 247px) 100vw, 247px\" \/><\/a>Recently <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Dr Telesia Kalavite<\/span><\/strong> was invited to participate in two online international panel discussions on the 4th, and 5th of August,<\/p>\n<p>She was first invited by <span style=\"color: #008080\"><strong>Fola-he Ngalu Online Media Network<\/strong><\/span>, a Free Weslyan Church of Tonga (Siasi Uesiliana Tau\u2018at\u0101ina \u2018o Tonga) online platform, to discuss the topic: <span style=\"color: #800080\">\u201cThe advice for parents of internet generations to help them understand what it means for their children to be proud of their Tongan identity within and outside of Tonga\u201d.<\/span> <em>(\u201cKo e fale\u2018i, ke tokoni ki he m\u0101tu\u2018a \u2018o e to\u2018utangata Tonga ko eni \u2018o e Ope p\u0113 \u2018Initaneti, kenau ongo\u2018i \u2018oku mahu\u2018inga kenau ke i p\u014dlepole p\u0113 \u2018i honau Tonga, \u2018o tatau p\u0113 \u2018i Tonga pea mo muli, (\u2018I loto-Tonga mo tu\u2018a-Tonga)\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Her focus in this panel was on her perspective as a Tongan mother and educator on what it means for this internet generation to be rooted in their Tongan culture.\u00a0 <em>\u201cPe koeh\u0101 \u2018ene vakai ki he mahu\u2018inga \u2018a hotau \u2018ulungaanga faka-Tonga \u2018i Tonga (loto-Tonga), \u2018i he kuonga p\u0113 to\u2018utangata ko eni \u2018o e \u2018Initaneti\/Vahaope\u201d <\/em>This panel was mostly in the Tongan language and can be found on the Network&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.folahengalu.fwc.to\">website<\/a>, on <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/XLdFNGSZNrU\">Youtube<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/100031806286908\/videos\/499590857806267\/\">Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Telesia was also invited by <span style=\"color: #008080\"><strong>THE (Times Higher Education) Live ANZ 2021 International Conference<\/strong><\/span>, to be one of the panelists on the topic: \u201c<span style=\"color: #800080\">Indigenous Knowledge and the Western academy: Reflections from the field<\/span>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Her focus in this panel was on her research, knowledge and experience on Pacific success in New Zealand Higher Education. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeshighered-events.com\/live-anz-2021\/agenda\/session\/554646\">Click here for the link to this panel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Kalavite is the Coordinator for Te Tumu&#8217;s Pacific Islands Studies programme.
