{"id":109,"date":"2014-08-22T10:04:55","date_gmt":"2014-08-21T22:04:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/?p=109"},"modified":"2014-08-22T10:04:55","modified_gmt":"2014-08-21T22:04:55","slug":"profiling-jim-williams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/profiling-jim-williams\/","title":{"rendered":"Profiling: Jim Williams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Te Tumu&#8217;s Research Blog will be posting occasional profiles of our academic staff, highlighting their research interests and publication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966\">Introducing <strong>Dr Jim Williams<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/files\/2014\/08\/jimwilliams.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-113\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/tetumuresearch\/files\/2014\/08\/jimwilliams.jpg\" alt=\"jimwilliams\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a>Jim is a Senior Lecturer and has been with Te Tumu since 1992.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000\"><strong>Research direction<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>* Ng\u0101i Tahu history and language.<\/p>\n<p>* Resource management including mahika kai, and comparisons with other Indigenous peoples.<\/p>\n<p>Jim is currently exploring the dynamics of oral transmission of traditional stories, with a view to publishing a book, which will examine the extent to which M\u0101ori families pass on M\u0101ui stories, compared with Navajo and their stories about Mai\u2019I (coyote \u2013 the trickster that predominates amongst Native Americans).
