Have a look at the planning section below, then check out the video or text instructions.<\/p>\n<h2>[Instructions UPDATE (8\/9\/2015)]<\/h2>\n<p>Here are a couple of tips to make things a bit easier:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Image sizes:<\/strong> Blackboard automatically resizes to 350px wide in order to fit within the window. So if you\u00a0 want a larger image the best approach is to link to a larger version by right clicking on the image and click on the link icon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/8-09-2015-4-35-02-p-m-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-704\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/8-09-2015-4-35-02-p-m-.jpg\" alt=\"8-09-2015 4-35-02 p-m-\" width=\"224\" height=\"139\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clear formatting: <\/strong>If you copy and paste text from other software like ms word it may have weird and mismatched formatting. Blackboard wikis don\u2019t really have any structure enforced so it\u2019s up to you how you design it. Some things to consider:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Organisation and navigation: What pages will you have? How will they be linked together? A common method is to have a hierarchical navigation (similar to sections and sub-sections in reports)<\/li>\n<li>Have a look around at some other websites to see how content, links and navigation work.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Blackboard will not let you delete pages<\/strong>, so don\u2019t create more pages than you need, you can always repurpose the pages as you see fit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>1.1.1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Website design and content tips:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Write plain English! Keep it simple so that people can skim and find what they need to.<\/li>\n<li>Use headings and formatting to make your content easier to navigate<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t embed links with a paragraph. Most of these should be pretty self-explanatory since they are the same icons you are used to in other software.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To find out what an icon does hover over it or just click on it and give it a go!<\/li>\n<li>You can use headings by highlighting text and selecting from the format dropdown menu:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/image9.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-694\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/image9.png\" alt=\"image9\" width=\"254\" height=\"186\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Click on the bullet list icon to get a bulleted list<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/image10.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-695\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/image10.png\" alt=\"image10\" width=\"199\" height=\"55\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Access symbols by clicking on the symbols icon:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/image11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-696\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/image11.png\" alt=\"image11\" width=\"201\" height=\"81\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>1.1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Adding images<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Create a new page called \u201cExperiment setup\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Write a description of the experiment setup and then add a photo or diagram by clicking on \u201c<strong>Insert\/Edit Image<\/strong>\u201d icon.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/image12.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-697\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/image12.png\" alt=\"image12\" width=\"196\" height=\"81\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>This will bring up a window. Click on the <strong>Browse my Computer<\/strong> link to find the image you want to add.<\/li>\n<li>Use the options on the \u201c<strong>Appearance<\/strong>\u201d tab if you want to change the size of the image etc. you can also resize the image on the page by clicking and dragging from the right hand corner<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>1.1\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Adding movies<\/h2>\n<p>Embedding movies into blackboard wikis is a bit problematic because it requires that 1) the movie is in a format that Blackboard can recognise. 2) the correct plugins are installed on the computer\/browser in order to play back the movie.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of embedding the movie you should add it as a linked file.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on the \u201c<strong>Insert File<\/strong>\u201d icon<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/image13.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-698\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2015\/08\/image13.png\" alt=\"image13\" width=\"224\" height=\"71\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Browse your computer and select the movie you want to attach.
