Instructions for using the pack are written below.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.download.otagogeology.org.nz\/training\/USGS_AI_pack.zip\">Download USGS_AI_Pack.zip<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Instructions for using USGS AI Pack<\/h2>\n<p>This pack has been derived from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.usgs.gov\/tm\/2006\/11A02\/\">FGDC Digital Cartographic Standard for Geologic Map Symbolization (PostScript Implementation)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are a couple of different ways to use this pack:<\/p>\n<h3>Approach 1: Installing the swatches and using the reference.<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Open a new document\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333333;font-style: normal;line-height: 24px\">in illustrator\u00a0<\/span>and bring up the swatches panel \u00a0(Window&gt;Swatches).<\/li>\n<li>Click on the small icon in the bottom left to choose swatches and go to <strong>Other Library.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2013\/08\/swatches1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-426\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2013\/08\/swatches1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"212\" height=\"58\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong>This should put you in the folder that contains a folder of swatches (or the swatches folder itself)<\/li>\n<li>Copy and Paste the &#8220;<strong>USGS_Swatches<\/strong>&#8221; folder you downloaded to the <strong>Swatches<\/strong> folder.<\/li>\n<li>Now when you click on the small icon in the bottom left of the <strong>Swatches Panel <\/strong>you will see <strong>USGS_Swatches<\/strong> in the list.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2013\/08\/swatches2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-427\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2013\/08\/swatches2-300x92.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"92\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2013\/08\/swatches2-300x92.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2013\/08\/swatches2.png 342w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Open up one of the Swatch sets. If you hover over the individual Swatches you will notice a number is displayed.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2013\/08\/swatches3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-428\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/si-geology\/files\/2013\/08\/swatches3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Refer to the\u00a0<strong>USGS_Swatches_reference.pdf <\/strong>to see which unit this refers to, or simply fill an object on the screen to view it. If you are using\u00a0<strong>AllUSGS<\/strong> swatch refer to\u00a0<strong>FGDCgeostdTM11A2_PattCh_poster.pdf<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Approach 2: Opening the USGS pattern pages directly in illustrator<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #333333;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, 'Nimbus Sans L', sans-serif;font-style: normal\">In the folder called &#8220;<\/span><strong>USGS_pattern_pages<\/strong><span style=\"color: #333333;font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, 'Nimbus Sans L', sans-serif;font-style: normal\">&#8221; are four ai files. Open any one of these in illustrator.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, 'Nimbus Sans L', sans-serif\">Select the pattern you want to use. Copy and paste this into your document (put it on the side of the page.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, 'Nimbus Sans L', sans-serif\">Use the eyedropper tool to apply this pattern to a shape.
