This page contains information relating to reversible pubertal suppression (GnRH agonist medication) and the regulation restricting prescribing of this for children and young people with gender incongruence or gender dysphoria.
Update on legal situation
Regulations have been introduced to limit new prescriptions of GnRHa for the purpose of puberty suppression from 19 December 2025 (this does not apply to people who have been prescribed GnRH agonists prior to this date). These regulations are subject to legal challenge. An interim injunction has been granted meaning that the High Court has confirmed that the regulations are not to be enforced until the outcome of the substantive judicial review is known.
This means that practitioners may continue to make prescribing decisions while exercising appropriate clinical caution consistent with usual professional and ethical standards.
