Transition metals will  be limited to iron, vanadium, chromium, manganese, copper and zinc<\/li>\n<li>periodic trends in atomic radius, ionisation energy, and electronegativity, and comparison of atomic and ionic radii<\/li>\n<li>Lewis structures and shapes (up to six electron pairs about the  central atom for molecules and polyatomic ions, including those with  multiple bonds)<\/li>\n<li>polarity of molecules<\/li>\n<li>attractive forces between atoms, ions, and molecules. These will  include ionic bonds, covalent bonds, and intermolecular attractions due  to temporary dipoles and permanent dipoles (including hydrogen bonding).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> <em>Thermochemical principles<\/em><\/strong> include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>transfer of heat between the system and the surroundings<\/li>\n<li>calculations involving the use of specific heat capacity<\/li>\n<li>\u0394c<em>H\u00b0<\/em>, \u0394f<em>H\u00b0<\/em>, \u0394r<em>H\u00b0<\/em>, \u0394vap<em>H\u00b0<\/em>, \u0394sub<em>H\u00b0<\/em>, and \u0394fus<em>H\u00b0<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Hess\u2019s Law including application of \u0394<sub>r<\/sub><em>H<\/em>(= \u03a3\u0394<sub>f<\/sub><em>H<\/em>((products) \u2013 \u03a3\u0394<sub>f<\/sub><em>H<\/em>((reactants)<\/li>\n<li>bond enthalpies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This achievement standard involves describing properties of atoms, molecules, and ions, and thermochemical principles.
