{"id":601,"date":"2011-05-23T08:45:34","date_gmt":"2011-05-22T20:45:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/ouassa\/?p=601"},"modified":"2011-05-23T08:54:12","modified_gmt":"2011-05-22T20:54:12","slug":"redox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/ouassa\/redox\/","title":{"rendered":"Redox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This achievement standard involves describing oxidation-reduction processes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm\"><strong>Processes<\/strong> involve  reactions and calculations, which may include electrochemical cells and  their properties, the use of reduction potentials, and spontaneity of  oxidation-reduction reactions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Calculations<\/strong> may include determination of oxidation numbers, mole ratios and those related to electrochemical cells.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div>Knowledge of appearance and state of the following reactants and  the product to which they are converted in an oxidation-reduction  reaction is required.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Oxidants will be limited to: O<sub>2<\/sub>, Cl<sub>2<\/sub>, I<sub>2<\/sub>, Fe<sup>3+<\/sup>, dilute acid (with metals), H<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>2<\/sub>, MnO<sub>4<\/sub><sup>\u2013<\/sup> (reacting in acidic, basic or neutral conditions), Cu<sup>2+<\/sup>, Cr<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>7<\/sub><sup>2\u2013<\/sup>\/H<sup>+<\/sup>, OCl<sup>\u2013<\/sup>, concentrated HNO<sub>3<\/sub>, IO<sub>3<\/sub><sup>\u2013<\/sup>, MnO<sub>2<\/sub>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Reductants will be limited to: metals, C, CO, H<sub>2<\/sub>, Fe<sup>2+<\/sup>, Br<sup>\u2013<\/sup>, I<sup>\u2013<\/sup>, H<sub>2<\/sub>S, SO<sub>2<\/sub>, SO<sub>3<\/sub><sup>2\u2013<\/sup>, S<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>3<\/sub><sup>2\u2013<\/sup>, H<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>2<\/sub>, H<sub>2<\/sub>C<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>4<\/sub>.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Appropriate information relating to other oxidants or reductants will be provided.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This achievement standard involves describing oxidation-reduction processes.
