{"id":997,"date":"2025-12-04T18:36:54","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T05:36:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/keithgordon\/?p=997"},"modified":"2025-12-05T14:20:22","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T01:20:22","slug":"amir-at-anzcop-in-auckland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/keithgordon\/amir-at-anzcop-in-auckland\/","title":{"rendered":"Amir at KOALA in Auckland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Amir recently attended the <span class=\"CWGkB\">Konference on Optics, Atoms, and Laser Applications 2025 (KOALA)<\/span>.\u00a0 His poster entitled The push and the pull: Examining the effect of electron-donating and electron-withdrawing substituents in heteroleptic Cu(I) complexes was presented along with a flash talk.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The work described in the poster concnerns the photophysical properties of a series of heteroleptic Cu(I) complexes that incorporate the bulky ligand 4,4\u2032-dimesityl-2,2\u2032-bipyridine (diMESbipy), along with a family of 4,4&#8242;-bis(phenylethynyl)-2,2&#8242;-bipyridine derivatives bearing electronically modified phenyleneethynylene (PE) substituents. These derivatives include: 4,4&#8242;-bis(phenylethynyl)-2,2&#8242;-bipyridine (L<sub>H<\/sub>), 4,4&#8242;-bis((4-nitrophenyl)ethynyl)-2,2&#8242;-bipyridine (L<sub>NO\u2082<\/sub>), 4,4&#8242;-bis((4-methoxyphenyl)ethynyl)-2,2&#8242;-bipyridine (L<sub>OMe<\/sub>), and 4,4&#8242;-bis((perfluorophenyl)ethynyl)-2,2&#8242;-bipyridine (L<sub>PFP<\/sub>).\u00a0Cu(I) complexes show quasireversible Cu(I)\/Cu(II) redox with geometry change (tetrahedral \u2192 square planar). The MLCT transition was validated by TD\u2011DFT and Resonance Raman spectroscopy. Substituent electronics tune HOMO\/LUMO energies and CT behavior.
