The NZIPS serious non-fatal injury outcome indicators define \u2018seriousness\u2019 in terms of threat to life. Serious injuries should not, however, be considered only in terms of threat to life. Injuries that result in long term disability and substantial cost are also serious. Relatively minor injuries in terms of threat to life may result in long term disability without adequate management and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n
