{"id":336,"date":"2011-09-21T18:32:24","date_gmt":"2011-09-22T06:32:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/ipru\/?page_id=336"},"modified":"2023-06-23T14:54:08","modified_gmt":"2023-06-23T02:54:08","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/ipru\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since 1990, the goal of the Injury Prevention Research Unit (IPRU) has been to undertake research that contributes to reducing the incidence, severity and adverse consequences of injury in New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>IPRU undertakes research in a wide range of areas. Unintentional injury, outcomes of injury, and injury prevention are examined. Studies may be based on settings where injury occurs, such as the home, the road, or workplace; on general injury populations and on particular groups within the population who are at risk, such as children, workers, or older people. Injury surveillance, examination of cross cutting issues such as alcohol misuse, and the consequences of injury such as disability are all areas of research interest to IPRU.<\/p>\n<p>IPRU staff also provide an online inquiry service (NIQS) which lets you produce New Zealand non-fatal and fatal summary <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/ipru\/statistics\">statistics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>IPRU is part of the <a title=\"PSM\" href=\"http:\/\/dnmeds.otago.ac.nz\/departments\/psm\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Department of Preventive and Social Medicine<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.otago.ac.nz\/dsm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Dunedin Medical School<\/a>, <a title=\"University of Otago\" href=\"http:\/\/www.otago.ac.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Otago<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div><a title=\"HRC\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hrc.govt.nz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/ipru\/files\/2011\/09\/HRClogo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"66\" height=\"71\" \/><\/a>IPRU is funded through grants and contracts.
