In 2004, the IPRU developed a set of fatal and serious non-fatal indicators to monitor the implementation of NZIPS. Concerns were expressed, however, about the validity of the serious non-fatal indicators of injury incidence for assault and self-harm and IPRU recommended that these be designated provisional.<\/p>\n

Aim:<\/strong>
\nTo test the following hypotheses:
\n– That there had been an increased likelihood of serious non-fatal self harm cases being recorded with a principal diagnosis of a mental health disorder; and
\n– Given that a serious non-fatal assault related injury had occurred, that there had been an increase in the reporting of serious non-fatal assault related injuries.<\/p>\n
