In this post, Anna explains the recent changes to post-study work rights for international students<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/international\/files\/2018\/11\/Isabella-Harrex-Graduation-2017.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-170 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/international\/files\/2018\/11\/Isabella-Harrex-Graduation-2017.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"608\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/international\/files\/2018\/11\/Isabella-Harrex-Graduation-2017.jpg 900w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/international\/files\/2018\/11\/Isabella-Harrex-Graduation-2017-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/international\/files\/2018\/11\/Isabella-Harrex-Graduation-2017-768x519.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/international\/files\/2018\/11\/Isabella-Harrex-Graduation-2017-444x300.jpg 444w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Recently the New Zealand Government announced changes to the conditions and length of the post-study work rights for international students.\u00a0 These changes will start from 26 November 2018.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new changes will mean most students who graduate from the University of Otago will experience fewer visa applications, a greater freedom to work and potentially less risk of exploitation by employers.<\/p>\n<p>Post-study work visas will be granted with \u2018open\u2019 work conditions.\u00a0 The \u2018open\u2019 work conditions mean that your visa is not linked to any employer and will allow you to work in almost any job, for any employer, anywhere in New Zealand after finishing your New Zealand study.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>How will this change affect you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We would really like to answer this question in detail here. However, your eligibility for the post-study work visa, and the duration that will be granted, does depend on a number of factors including when you started your qualification, your qualification level and the length of your study in New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>To help you understand the changes, Immigration New Zealand have put together an information <a href=\"https:\/\/www.immigration.govt.nz\/documents\/media\/post-study-work-rights-for-international-students-factsheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">factsheet<\/a> and list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.immigration.govt.nz\/documents\/media\/post-study-work-rights-for-international-students-frequently-asked-questions.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">frequently asked questions<\/a> to assist international students.
