Together with international collaborators (see collaborators page) we are discovering ligands and inhibitors that bind to these serine hydrolases. To develop these molecules into tools for the clinic (for imaging or drugging) we need to study them at the atomic level. This is where you come in &#8211; building on our established protocols to produce high quality crystals of one of these proteins (FphE, FphF, FphH or FphI) you will learn how to create protein crystals and determine the structure of the protein that forms it in complex with a wide range of ligands. This project also includes measurements at the Melbourne Australian synchrotron (in person or remotely depending on your preference). In addition, you will learn to use several other biochemical techniques to characterise the structure and function of your purified proteins.
