We have established that Fphs can cleave liposomes, which mimic the bacterial membrane. Only for FphH this characterisation has been done in details and a student project would focus to perform this characterisation with additional Fph proteins and go into the chemical details of how the liposome is cleaved using various techniques, including electron microscopy.

Dye released from liposomes due to cleavage by FphA, FphB, FphD, FphE, FphF, FphH, FphI, FphJ, SAL1 and SAL2 in comparison to PLA2 and just buffer

Liposome cleavage by FphH and reference enzyme PLA2 Supervisor: Dr. Fellner (Biochemistry) & Dr. Tan (Chemistry) The Fph liposome projects are in collaboration with the Tan Lab – University of Otago – Department of Chemistry.
