What is Blackboard?

Blackboard is a learning management system, which contains a range of tools to support teaching and learning. We’ve been running Blackboard at Otago since about 2000.  Some features are:

  • Uploading/managing files
  • Tests, Surveys and Grades
  • Discussions
  • Simple Blogs, Wikis and Journals
  • Anti-plagiarism checking.

What we’re currently working on

2011 has been an extremely busy year for Blackboard.  We had a major upgrade at the end of 2010, and as a result of that we’ve been spending a lot of time supporting staff and students as they adapt to the new features, and also working on making sure that Blackboard runs smoothly.

What’s coming up

Here’s what’s on the horizon:

  • Service Pack 6
This is the latest Blackboard update which was released very recently.  We’re currently looking at the features and fixes contained in Service Pack 6 to see if we should upgrade to this, perhaps after the end of Semester 2.
