with the Constitutional Advisory Panel, a body established by the government to canvass public views on the constitution. \u00a0This was a public event, held at the Otago Museum, and attended by a variety of people throughout the day. \u00a0Present were two panel members, Peter Chin and Sir Tipene O&#8217;Regan, and the panel&#8217;s administrative organiser, Lison Harris.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_269\" style=\"width: 224px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/crocc\/files\/2013\/03\/crocc-JSa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-269\" class=\"  wp-image-269 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/crocc\/files\/2013\/03\/crocc-JSa-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/crocc\/files\/2013\/03\/crocc-JSa-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/crocc\/files\/2013\/03\/crocc-JSa.jpg 334w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-269\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">John Stenhouse gave a paper on &#8216;The Secular State?&#8217;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Professor Tony Ballantyne, the Centre director, welcomed those attending, and this was followed by talks on theimpact of religion (Assoc Prof John Stenhouse); the political aspirations of early colonists (Prof Ballantyne); how <em>rangatiratanga<\/em> was understood in the colonial period (Dr Lachy Paterson); M\u0101ori voting patterns (Dr Paerau Warbrick-Anderson);
