Some training in\u00a0the history of science is desirable but not essential.<\/p>\n<p>This project aims to\u00a0illuminate what, if anything, was distinctive about the New Zealand eugenics\u00a0movement by placing it in comparative international context.<\/p>\n<p>The successful\u00a0applicant must be willing to investigate the interconnections between eugenics\u00a0and science, class, race, gender, nation-state and religion.\u00a0This three-year project is funded by the Allan\u00a0Wilson Centre for Molecular Ecology and Evolution and includes a $25,000 NZD\u00a0per year scholarship, $5,000 per year for tuition fees, and funding for\u00a0international travel.<\/p>\n<p>To apply for this position\u00a0submit a CV, academic record, two academic references, a writing sample,\u00a0and a short statement of research interests to John Stenhouse:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:john.stenhouse@otago.ac.nz\">john.stenhouse@otago.ac.nz<\/a><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Associate Professor John\u00a0Stenhouse\u00a0(History &amp; Art History) &amp;\u00a0Professor Hamish Spencer\u00a0(Zoology) are\u00a0looking for a suitably qualified student to research and write a PhD thesis on the history of eugenics in New Zealand.
