The 2018 National Conference of the Archives and Records Association of New Zealand will take place from 25-28 August at Rotorua.<\/p>\n

The theme of the conference is M\u0101ori archives and records. This theme and kaupapa allows for an exploration of the discovery, preservation, description, record keeping, interconnectedness and meaning of M\u0101ori records, archives and taonga. The 2018 conference looks to explore opportunities for researchers, communities and organisations to collaborate in the guardianship of knowledge, facilitate researcher engagement and help safeguard our collective past in perpetuity.<\/p>\n

Areas of focus, and possible topics, could include:<\/p>\n

  • \uf0b7 \u00a0Iwi and community archives<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0Conservation and preservation of collections<\/li>\n
  • \uf0b7 \u00a0Preventing and managing disasters<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0Documenting heritage collections and taonga<\/li>\n
  • Collection descriptions for indigenous designed databases<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0Record-keeping standards and authority headings<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0Digitising collections<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0Cultural sensitivities and archival ethics<\/li>\n
  • Research into M\u0101ori collections and archives<\/li>\n
  • Displacement of collections and repatriation<\/li>\n
  • Collecting archives in a post-Treaty environment<\/li>\n
  • \u00a0Resourcing and funding challenges<\/li>\n
  • Ownership and kaitiakitanga<\/li>\n
  • Te Reo as part of the record<\/li>\n
  • Distributed collecting across institutions and iwi archives<\/li>\n
  • Connecting communities through records and archives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Proposals for 20 minute papers are invited. Abstracts of 450-500 words and a short bio should be submitted via email to Tiena Jordan (threejordans@xtra.co.nz) by the 31st March 2018.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
