{"id":1697,"date":"2017-09-25T12:29:44","date_gmt":"2017-09-24T23:29:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/crocc\/?p=1697"},"modified":"2017-09-25T12:30:10","modified_gmt":"2017-09-24T23:30:10","slug":"stripping-back-colonial-studies-to-their-bones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/crocc\/stripping-back-colonial-studies-to-their-bones\/","title":{"rendered":"Stripping Colonial Studies Back to Their Bones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Centre&#8217;s research seminar series resumes on <strong>Friday 29 September<\/strong> with a presentation by Dr. Charlotte King (Department of Anatomy).<\/p>\n<p>Her talk is titled: \u201cStripping Colonial Studies Back to Their Bones: Combining bioarchaeology and history to look at European settlement of Tokomairiro\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte will discuss the recent excavation of \u2018forgotten\u2019 areas of the St John\u2019s Anglican cemetery in Milton, which has given bioarchaeologists an unprecedented opportunity to reconstruct the biological histories of some of the first European settlers in the Otago region. This talk will detail what archaeologists can do to shed light on the lives of these settlers, and how this might intersect with the social histories generated by historians.<\/p>\n<p>Please join us on Friday 29 September at the Hocken Library Seminar room, 90 Anzac Avenue for this talk, which begins at 3.30.
