{"id":74,"date":"2020-05-08T15:21:34","date_gmt":"2020-05-08T03:21:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/christinamcgraw\/?p=74"},"modified":"2020-05-12T10:47:56","modified_gmt":"2020-05-11T22:47:56","slug":"summer-2019-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/christinamcgraw\/summer-2019-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer 2019\/2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was a busy summer in the McGraw group, which began with December&#8217;s announcement that Maserota, Rebecca and Wayne were each awarded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.otago.ac.nz\/oceanacidification\/index.html\">Otago Ocean Acidification Research Theme<\/a> funding to support new aspects of their research!<\/p>\n<p>After well-deserved summer holidays, the group traveled to Wellington in February for the 13th annual <a href=\"http:\/\/nzoac.nz\/conferences\">New Zealand Ocean Acidification Conference<\/a>. Denise gave an oral presentation on her latest optical fibre sensors; Christina spoke about <a href=\"https:\/\/meddle-scor149.org\/\">MEDDLE<\/a> resources and led a post-conference experimental design workshop for early career scientists. Three students gave poster presentations about aspects of their work: Habibeh (ship-board DMS sensor),\u00a0Wayne (marine calcium) and Maserota (autonomous device for high frequency pH monitoring in Samoa).<\/p>\n<p>We were sad to say goodbye to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nioz.nl\/en\/about\/organisation\/staff\/rebecca-zitoun\">Rebecca<\/a>, who started an exciting post-doc position at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research. However, this loss was balanced by addition of three new group members (Elliot, Grace and Alice) and visits from\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: 300\" href=\"https:\/\/marine.gu.se\/english\/about-us\/staff?languageId=100001&amp;userId=xhavjo\">Jon Havenhand<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 300\"> (University of Gothenburg) and <\/span><a style=\"font-weight: 300\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wgtn.ac.nz\/sbs\/about\/staff\/christopher-cornwall\">Christopher Cornwall<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 300\"> (Victoria University of Wellington).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/christinamcgraw\/files\/2020\/05\/McGrawGroup-Feb2020.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-75\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/christinamcgraw\/files\/2020\/05\/McGrawGroup-Feb2020-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/christinamcgraw\/files\/2020\/05\/McGrawGroup-Feb2020-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/christinamcgraw\/files\/2020\/05\/McGrawGroup-Feb2020-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/christinamcgraw\/files\/2020\/05\/McGrawGroup-Feb2020-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.otago.ac.nz\/christinamcgraw\/files\/2020\/05\/McGrawGroup-Feb2020-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, the Otago Daily Times confirmed what we all suspected: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.odt.co.nz\/news\/dunedin\/campus\/university-of-otago\/no8-wire-graduation-%E2%80%98super-special%E2%80%99\">Maserota has the best flatmates<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a busy summer in the McGraw group, which began with December&#8217;s announcement that Maserota, Rebecca and Wayne were each awarded Otago Ocean Acidification Research Theme funding to support new aspects of their research!
